Week 1.5: Max Ernst Interpretations (In-Class)

The following are my personal interpretations of a few pictures in Max Ernst's Une Semaine de Bonte.

A homeless lady dances in front of a basket of eggs trying to magically hatch them with the use of a rooster who balances on a magic ball.

A magical chicken witch doctor tries to heal a young girl, bringing her inside his laboratory. He brews up a magical concoction and feeds it to the unconscious girl.

The older sister has died and the younger sister can't bare to be alone. The grave diggers find her at the resting place and teller her there's a way for her to see her again. The two men are half animals. They tell her to take off her clothes and where the new skin.

Chicken people prepare the human feast  such as the lady laying on a board with skull and cross bone symbol. Other naked humans pose on pedestals as if they were statues.

A chicken man walks into a woman's room to find her dead on the ground. He's happy as two roosters stand around the room. The roosters look as if they are the ones who committed the murder.

A man is trying to block the door more with the furniture as the chicken man tries to get through. The woman near the fire place is scared or shocked.

The two women are watching a play. One is focused on the stage with the binoculars while the other one sees the chicken who sits in front of the balcony. The chicken man is ready to strike at any moment with his stick.

Two women try to hide the goose from the chicken beast but drops the candle. The chicken beast is in the hallway looking for something.
